Faces of FIUTS: Emerson Goss
Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. During July and August, we will be introducing the 2020-2021 FIUTS Student Board. This week, meet Emerson Goss, CulturalFest Expo Co-Chair!

Where are you from?
I am from Seattle Washington and I love our city, especially the bleak weather. During high school on some rainy days as I commuted home I would drop my backpack under the roof of my bus stop and just run until my clothes were soaked through. We also have lots of nature and you're never too far from a park bench to relax on.
What's your FIUTS story?
In high school I got very involved with a local nonprofit centered around global leadership. When I got to UW and learned about FIUTS, it was the perfect way for me to engage with what I had learned while making friends and having a good time. At FIUTS Wednesday Lunch, I met people who I could practice language and explore my hometown with. I signed up to become a facilitator and volunteered on service days. My favorite times as a facilitator are when the plans go wrong but everyone is talking, smiling, and laughing together anyway. This year I’ll be on the student board working to plan the CulturalFest Expo, and I’m really excited to bring people together again.
How will you change the world?
Changing the world sounds like a huge and intimidating task, but remember that we are what make the world. There is a Jewish saying that one who saves a life saves the whole world. I dream of becoming a doctor so I can save many worlds who come to me sick. But even now I’m changing the world through education and teaching future generations. I love to teach and share knowledge because students are inspiring. Healing the present and supporting the future is how I will change the world.
Emerson Goss is a junior studying bioengineering with minors in Korean and global health. He plans on studying medicine and is the CulturalFest Expo Co-Chair of the 2020-2021 FIUTS Student Board.
