Faces of FIUTS: Meet Kevin
Faces of FIUTS is a social media campaign that collects personal stories from individuals who are part of our work. This week, meet Kevin!
Where are you from?: I'm from Lake Stevens, WA!
What's your FIUTS story?: I was exposed to so many new perspectives during my time at FIUTS, it's hard to summarize. I learned so much from the people I went on global getaways with; so much about the disciplines they studied, the cultures they were a part of, and the experiences they chose to share with me. They really did change how I see the world, and even my own home. Now I can’t look at Washington without seeing the colors they painted it in and my view is so much richer for it.
How will you change the world?: After graduating, I joined the Peace Corps and worked in agriculture in Paraguay. That experience inspired me to continue pursuing work in sustainable agriculture. Now I am building community pollinator gardens with a nonprofit here in Washington while I study to become an entomologist. I hope to take the global perspective that FIUTS fostered in me to help improve global food systems.
Kevin was a FIUTS facilitator from 2013 to 2016. He participated in many FIUTS events, but his favorites were campus tours and global getaways.
You can support programs that give students like Kevin opportunities to learn, grow, and broaden their perspectives by making a gift to the Inclusion table at this year’s Virtual Blue Marble Bash.
