Study of the U.S. Institute for Student Leaders in Journalism and New Media (SUSI)

About the Program

In 2014, FIUTS was selected to host the Study of the US Institute for Student Leaders in Journalism and New Media (SUSI), sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. This program ran for five weeks in June and July of 2014, 2015, and 2016.

This program brings 20 undergraduates from Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Nepal to Seattle. While here, international participants study journalism and new media, and participate in volunteer and service activities, leadership workshops, and cultural excursions.

Students stay in University of Washington residence halls and spend one weekend with a local homestay host. The last portion of the program takes place in Chicago and Washington D.C.

The Study of the U.S. Institutes promotes a better understanding of the people, institutions, and culture of the United States among foreign students, teachers, and scholars. Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSI) are short-term academic programs for groups of undergraduate leaders, educators, and scholars from around the world.
